Glee to Shoot a Whitney Houston Episode

Posted on March 11th, 2012 by Stacy V  |  No Comments »

E! Online is reporting that there will indeed be a Whitney Houston-tribute episode. And this will apparently not be any ordinary tribute episode — or at least not like last month’s Whitney-centric episode: This one will feature eight of her songs and is said to be more of a “”character piece.”"

When news of Whitney Houston’s passing first spread, there must have been a bit of a panic over at Fox’s hit series Glee. Just days after the tragic event, the series aired a lead character, Mercedes (Amber Riley) singing Houston’s most recognizable hit, “”I Will Always Love You.”" The uncanny timing was coincidental and didn’t allow the series to prep a proper tribute, so the episode simply concluded with a placard that read, “”We will always love you.”" But that’s not the way Glee does it. They deliver grandiose, episode-consuming tributes, so where’s Whitney’s?

Well, it may be on its way. On March 8, Lea Michele tweeted from the Glee set hinting at an upcoming tribute:

“Glee” has already been signed on for two more seasons and it looks like the hit show has big plans in store. In addition to adding new cast members, celebrities and non-celebrities alike, there have been talks about possible spin-offs for characters on the Fox comedy.According to TVStar.com, “Glee” star Mathew Morrison confirmed that there are two future spin-offs in the works. While Mathew denied rumors about a “Glee” movie, it looks like fans could get the opportunity to see a few of their favorite stars branch out to other shows.

It’s great that Glee and it’s fans have at least two more seasons to enjoy. Even better is the opportunity for some great spin-offs. Stay Tuned!

Glee Finishes Strong with Season Finale

New York Times writer BENJAMIN TOFF recently wrote about Glee’s season finale Nielsen ratings and how strong the series ended with it’s season finale (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/10/arts/television/10arts-007.html)

Benjamin Toff, NyTimes.com
Fox’s “Glee” ended its first full season on Tuesday on a high note, attracting 10.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen’s estimates, the series’s largest audience without the benefit of following an episode of “American Idol.” Fox placed third for the night over all. ABC was No. 1 for the night with its coverage of Game 3 of the N.B.A. Finals. CBS was second with repeats of its crime shows. NBC was fourth.

We can’t wait for the next season of Glee to unfold and we know that these types of ratings will continue!

Madonna Not a Glee Fan

Posted on April 15th, 2010 by Stacy V  |  No Comments »

Rob Shuter of PopEater.com just reported that Madonna is definitely not a fan of Glee…she doesn’t even know what it is and she definitely is not happy with them using her song in an upcoming episode! (http://www.popeater.com/2010/04/14/madonna-glee/)

Rob Shuter, PopEater.com
It seems as if everyone on the planet is planning on tuning in to watch ‘Glee’ — everyone, that is, except Madonna, whose songs will be featured on the show next week.

“Madonna doesn’t have a TV and has no idea what ‘Glee’ is,” a friend of the Material Girl tells me. “The show did ask her if she wanted to make an appearance in the much-hyped Madonna episode. She said ‘no thanks’ and, to be honest, she would rather they sing an Elton John song than butcher one of hers.”

It’s true that artists have no control over who sings their songs on TV, although Madonna will make over $100,000 in royalties from the ‘Glee’ episode that contains her material.

Not bad for an artist who says yes to ‘Marriage Ref’ but no to ‘Glee.’ At least we got our Madonna eye candy by seeing Jane Lynch in a cone-bra.

Its a shame Madonna is not a Glee fan and that she turned them down for a cameo.

Glee Almost Doubles Audience on Return to Television

Posted on April 14th, 2010 by Stacy V  |  No Comments »

ABCNews is reporting the audience statistics for Glee‘s return to TV last night as almost doubling after over four months off the air:

Glee TV Ratings

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – High school musical comedy “Glee” nearly doubled its audience on its return to television after a four-month absence, drawing 13.7 million viewers, the Fox network said on Wednesday.

The award-winning series about a group of misfit students in a struggling competition choir saw its biggest audience ever Tuesday night, positioning the TV show for a move from cult fan status to mainstream hit.

Fox said that Tuesday’s episode of “Glee” outperformed the prior season average for the show by 88 percent in total viewers, or 13.7 million people compared to 7.3 million.
“Glee”, a quirky, larger-than-life comedy series that features its cast singing cover versions of pop, Broadway and rap songs, has already won Golden Globe, Peabody and Screen Actors Guild awards since its 2009 debut.

The show has been off the air since December 2009 to make way for the annual Fox ratings juggernaut “American Idol”.

Two albums of “Glee” songs have hit music charts in the U.S., Australia, Ireland and the U.K., and more than 4.5 million songs from the show have been downloaded in the United States alone. Cast members will embark on a sold out U.S. concert tour in the summer.

Singing competition “American Idol” remains the most-watched U.S. TV show with an average audience in its current 9th season of 24.9 million viewers.

The question now is whether or not these Glee Ratings will be able to be sustained for the whole season.

Glee Season Finale to Feature Celebrity Judges

Posted on April 14th, 2010 by Stacy V  |  No Comments »

With Glee finally back on TV with a new episode last night, rumors are starting to fly about celebrity judges at the Regionals for the Glee Season Finale. ‘Just So You Know’ writer, Nadine Cheung reports that Olivia Newton John and Josh Groban may be among the judges. (http://www.jsyk.com/2010/04/13/glee-season-finale-to-feature-celeb-judges-at-regionals/)

The new episode of Glee airs tonight, but we’ve got the scoop on the season finale for you now. According to Entertainment Weekly, the last official episode of Season One will end with a showdown at Regionals that will feature three celebrity judges: singer Josh Groban, 80s pop star Olivia Newton-John and…Sue Sylvester.

New Directions will go head-to-head against Vocal Adrenaline in the big competition, and be critiqued by a panel of famous faces. “The theme of Regionals is celebrity judges,” creator Ryan Murphy tells EW. “Sue is now a nationwide celebrity. And Olivia and Josh only like choirs that sing their songs, so that’s funny.

“They wanted to do something that played against what people think about them…to play against type,” he adds. “So we gave them an opportunity. And it’s funny to have Sue as a judge when she doesn’t really know about [music], and she has it out for that darn Glee club.” Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John join a long list of celebrity guests, who have agreed to appear on the hit Fox series. The cast will begin shooting the episode next week, and the season finale is scheduled to air on June 8. The spring premiere episode, ‘Hello,’ airs tonight on Fox at its special time 9:28 p.m., right after American Idol.

Who do you think will be a glee celebrity judge for the season finale?
